I submitted my motherboard for an RMA with MSI because I think the PCI slot is having issues. I appreciate the images you shared from MSI earlier today. I’m hoping Carrier insurance will cover this matter. Could my RMA be rejected for using an AM5 contact frame? USPS handles packages with great care—they must have found a suitable place for my motherboard.
In theory, if you keep this information private and the stock ILM is set up when they get it, they shouldn't need it. However, there isn't a strong reason to use the contact frame on AM5—those CPUs behave differently from LGA 1700. When the new board arrives, avoid installing the contact frame.
They seem to have handled the situation without a problem, though it might be unusual if you had it in an ESD bag. The packing material and quantity aren't clear. For reference, the PCB remains intact—only the POST screen is affected.
Your shipping materials might not have been adequate. Packaging differs greatly from motherboard protection, and some items like the POST code display can be delicate. I operate in the defense sector, so proper packaging is crucial for two main reasons: the direct cost of parts and ensuring recipients understand how to handle them. This becomes especially important when sending components over long distances. In your case, was the motherboard close to any box walls? Was there space between the board and the box sides? Including the area around the POST code display? Whatever the situation, I hope your courier coverage can manage it.
It seems your car's motherboard could boost performance by 5 to 10 horsepower.
The motherboard came in a compact packaging design, making it difficult to slide the top and bottom parts. Near the VRM heatsink on the board, there was the most noticeable damage—scratches or dents. I requested a photo of the box from MSI upon arrival and submitted a claim with USPS demanding $479.99 for the motherboard. The same model is available on Amazon for $449 at that time.
