You can run Windows 8.1 from the adata SSD if you prepare it properly. You don’t need to copy your current OS; just format the SSD and install Windows 8.1 during the setup process.

You may place the operating system onto the SSD via the disk if you can't create a clone of your previous drive to the new SSD.

I would create a backup and reinstall Windows after changing the main C: drive.

If it fits on the SSD and you prefer not to reinstall from your previous drive, I recommend copying the drive.
