Hi, let's get straight to the facts. Is it secure to maintain a power limit of +50 all the time? Also, is it safe to repeatedly switch back from normal settings and set the power limit to +50?

The system specs are: Intel i7 6700k at 4.9 GHz OC, 16GB RAM at 2800 MHz G.Skill Ripjaws V, XFX Radeon R9 295x2 GPU, and a 1200W Platinum PSU. The CPU is cooled via Corsair H100i GTX, while the GPU has its own water cooling. I use the Wattman app with AMD Crimson drivers and have game profiles for titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Hitman, and GTA V. Usually, I enable these profiles before gaming, simply increasing the power limit to +50 and turning it off afterward.

I'm wondering if constantly toggling between these profiles is safe. I've used the 295x2 since its release and it has worked well. I plan to upgrade when Vega comes out, then see if it's worth it.

Hello, here’s the straight answer. Is it secure to maintain a power limit of +50 all the time? And is it safe to repeatedly switch back from normal and set the power limit to +50 during those transitions?

System details:
CPU: Intel i7 6700k 4.9 GHz OC
RAM: 16GB 2800 MHz G.Skill Ripjaws V
GPU: XFX Radeon R9 295x2
PSU: FSP 1200W PT (Platinum)
The CPU is cooled via Corsair H100i GTX, and the 295x2 has its own water cooling.

I’m using the Wattman app with the AMD crimson driver, which includes profiles for games such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, Hitman, GTA V, etc. I usually enable these profiles before playing, simply increasing the power limit to +50 and turning it off afterward.

I’m wondering if it’s safe to keep changing the power limit so frequently.

Grimbler asked directly about safety when keeping the power limit at +50 and constantly switching between normal and +50 during gaming sessions. He provided his system specs and mentioned using a specific app with game profiles, noting that he increases the power limit only when playing and turns it off afterward. He expressed uncertainty about the safety of frequent profile changes and questioned whether upgrading would be beneficial unless paired with overclocking or overvolting.

To the best of my understanding, GPUs provide power only for their own needs. Therefore, a 100W GPU wouldn't output 150W when you aim for a higher percentage... But avoid stress tests that require a high power goal, particularly OCCT and Furmark.
