Yes, you could visit your nearby Apple Store. They might accept payment for upgrading your MacBook Pro’s RAM and hard drive. The cost would depend on the specific model and any applicable fees.

It will cost you the same as buying a brand new MacBook with 16GB, since the RAM is permanently attached to the circuit board

In theory, it's possible but few have actually attempted it.

I don't think so. I used a 2012 non-retina 13-inch for five years. I sold it for around $450. It's not a retina model. Your value will remain strong. And let's be honest, about 95% of the time 8GB of RAM is sufficient on a Mac.

I purchased a 2GB RAM air from 2013 with a faulty USB port, and struggled to find it for 300 USD. It was one of my preferred machines. The only one on eBay that came with a charger. Recently it sold for 700, but it still works perfectly thanks to built-in Mac apps like GarageBand and Safari.

I understand it’s sufficient. I watched some YouTube clips featuring someone playing on the same MacBook Pro I own—powered only by Intel Iris Graphics 540 and 16GB RAM. They achieved frame rates comparable to those on a PS4 or Xbox One. Although I didn’t get my MacBook Pro for gaming, those videos really caught my attention.
