What kind of titles are we examining here?
With your i9-9900K and CoffeeLake setup, you should match DDR4-3200MHz to DDR4-3600MHz dual channel RAM, a Z series chipset with robust VRM, and ensure your PSU can supply 850W for the whole system, plus solid construction.
I was aware that the RTX 3070 would generate significant surge currents, yet I believed the brief spikes wouldn’t be intense enough to justify a 750-watt power supply. Would the prolonged surges actually necessitate moving to an 850-watt model?
Great feedback!
Thanks!
For what it's worth, my setup includes:
11600K
16GB of 3000 Corsair DDR4
Reference 3070
Corsair RM750x
I'm using a 1080/120 display and in top settings I'm consistently getting over 75 FPS across most games. I should double-check BG3 since I'm certain some frame generation is needed there, and I already use CP77 to keep a stable performance above 60 FPS without any noticeable drops. Division 2 runs around 90 FPS at the highest, while older Clancy titles often hold steady at 120, and the Sniper series games as well.
I believe the 9900K and 11600K are roughly comparable in terms of performance. My tests show a difference of about 1-10% during initial checks. However, keep in mind those 9th generation K i9 models tend to be more demanding.
Thanks a lot! At least the performance expectations are reasonable.
