Hey everyone, I purchased a used MOBO with lots of USB ports. Two of them were damaged during an incident involving the Hulk. I'm curious if using these pins could affect my PC or the MOBO over time. No intention to use them, but just wanted to know. Thanks ahead and have a great day!

I’d use a tiny tweazer to verify no pins touch each other or the metal casing of each port. It should work fine. Filling each port with hot glue can secure the pins and avoid accidental contact.

Ensure no connections touch each other for smooth operation.

Yes, you can remove the broken pins to ensure they won’t touch each other.

USB security is top-notch; you could disable the port completely and see a warning like "a usb device malfunctioned" in Windows. To prevent issues, I’d likely place something solid (like a piece of plastic) inside the port to keep the pins from touching the case, then cover it up to avoid accidental use.

In theory, you could simply take them out if the board isn’t installed yet. Replacing the USB ports is straightforward and won’t cost much unless you’re handy with soldering yourself. A nearby electronics shop or hobbyist could handle it for you. If you don’t need them, make sure pins aren’t touching.

It seems the conversation veered into unrelated topics. Did you know the prior owner shared their experience with the damage? It’s surprising how hard it was to break the pins on a USB port.

He gave me a worn-out photo and told me it wasn’t in the same shape when it was with him. That must have been a trick. It’s all a mystery now. I’m curious about how this came to pass.
