Your 3570K with GTX 960 and those RAM specs would likely struggle on today’s high-end machines unless you optimize everything. For a better gaming experience, upgrading to modern components would probably be more effective than turning it into a SteamOS-only PC. SteamOS runs on Linux which could make it more responsive compared to Windows. Still, many games aren't designed for Linux and can be difficult to install. In short, I don't suggest using SteamOS. Ultimately, the decision is yours.
