Could I Gain Advantage by Employing My Gaming Laptop as a Dedicated Streaming Device?
Could my gaming laptop be a suitable alternative for streaming?
Initially, let me outline my setup:
I recently upgraded my gaming computer with a processor – Intel i9 9900K, a graphics card - RTX2080, and a hybrid solid-state drive configuration: an m.2 SSD combined with another SSD. I also have 32GB of DDR4 Vengeance Pro RAM.
I primarily use a 21:9 IPS gaming monitor, although I'm currently only running it at 1080p due to circumstances. While I enjoy ultra-wide monitors, my current workload isn't as demanding as someone using a 2K resolution display. I stream *Cities Skylines* at 2560x1080 resolution with a frame rate of 60 FPS, and my dashboard preview on one of my three monitors appears to be performing adequately. My internet upload speed is approximately 30MBPS through National Broadband.
As a solo streamer without an audience, I don't currently have any viewer feedback to share – my observations are solely based on what I see within my dashboard. However, I'm considering acquiring a dedicated capture device for my laptop to potentially alleviate some strain on my current system. Considering that upcoming high-end titles like *Star Citizen* recommend SSD usage for optimal performance, I'm wondering if my gaming laptop could help reduce the load on my i9 9900K CPU. I understand that streaming can be taxing on processors, regardless.
Here are the specifications of my laptop:
ROG (Republic Of Gamers) GL702VM – Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 6700HQ (base clock speed of 2.6 GHz, boosting up to 3.5 GHz) – GTX1060 with 6GB of VRAM – 16 GB DDR4 RAM – M.2 + SATA3 SSD storage.
I’m uncertain whether investing in a better capture device would be worthwhile, especially to reduce the burden on my existing system, as I want to maintain smooth performance in both my streaming activities and when playing the latest AAA games.
What are your opinions?
Despite the length of this post, here’s where I initially conceived this question:

You can transmit video directly from your computer without any noticeable reduction in quality, however, purchasing a dedicated capture device could also be beneficial.
