It seems your friend's files are encrypted with FODCWNC-files, which might be a custom or proprietary format. There could be methods to recover them if you can access the application that opened them. However, without more details about the software or the encryption method, it's hard to give specific advice. Be cautious and avoid sharing sensitive information publicly.

Do you have a .txt file containing a readme section that mentions instructions for paying the ransomware? Often such files can provide additional details, which you might search for decrypts online. Note: This was an unintentional duplicate entry. Disregard this, as the reply I gave didn't include images.

It seems you're checking out ransomware protection. Here are some resources: https://www.nomoreransom.org/en/index.html – they likely have a Dutch version as well.

Certainly, confirmed. In this situation (luckily) the files are stored via OneDrive and can restore the latest versions.

I'm not connected to any personal data or systems, so I can't check if your friend has Windows Defender enabled. You'll need to verify that through their device settings or antivirus software.

defender may run slowly... often acting as a connection point in emails or visiting incorrect sites. Many users accidentally clicked something and made mistakes. We found encrypted files on the server and had to talk to the user—either unaware or ashamed—to fix the issue. The main solution was restoring from a backup.
