I own a fairly recent Dell computer and would like the 64-bit edition.

Desktop Linux options are plentiful, especially for x86_64 systems. Consider Debian for a solid start, similar to how the Raspberry Pi OS builds on it, though you may want to add some Pi-specific tweaks.

Do you mean x86? Because there are is a aarch64 version of raspberry pi desktop. If you want to install on your laptop, just use debian or some debian-based distro instead.

The latest Raspbian release is a 64-bit version. An x86-64 build doesn't make sense because it's essentially Debian with Pi-specific enhancements added.

You're asking for clarification on the purpose of installing Raspberry Pi OS on a laptop.

Today's version is even more aligned with the situation than earlier Raspbian releases. Currently, Raspbian for aarch64 leverages Debian stable repositories directly and includes a separate raspbian repo for the limited packages and kernel updates that require changes. These two systems are highly compatible, making Debian a seamless replacement for amd64 (x86_64). The only missing component will be the default desktop environment "PiXeL" from Raspbian.

Well there's a 32-bit version https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/ras...i-desktop/ but no 64-bit version To clarify, my laptop is x86-64 and is already running the 32-bit version, but a 64-bit one would be better Model of laptop: Dell Latitude E7240

That's a really outdated release from 2022. And yeah, there's no 64-bit version of it.
