As you move away from A, the lower the pedigree of the PSU becomes. I wouldn't invest in either of those units since the PSU is seen as the core of a system and I don't want my setup to experience a failure. It's best not to invest in older models if you're working with concurrent hardware. Would there be any difference in performance or FPS during the game with a tier-d PSU? I'm not sure about the power supply's specifications or what you're using. For clarity, please share your build details before making a decision.

No, I don't anticipate any noticeable FPS variation between Tier-B and Tier-D models. The design and parts in Tier-D could be of lesser quality. Ripple voltage may increase, hold-up time shorter, surge on switch-on stronger, max temp lower, protection features weaker, warranty shorter. Tier-D PSUs are likely cheaper but more prone to early failure. Tier-A models cost more but tend to last longer and run more reliably. I purchased a few CX550 PSUs for old office PCs—they're budget-friendly lightweight units with just three SATA ports. If they fail, it won't be too much of a problem. They don't support separate PCIe GPUs, so power needs are modest. For more demanding setups, I opt for pricier Corsair RM, TX and HX series models. If you look closely enough, you'll likely find some reviews. You should be fine with either CX550 for several years, but an RM650x would suit me better due to its build quality.

but you'd experience worse voltage regulation, increased ripple, etc.
which could reduce the lifespan of your parts over time.
the CX models were regarded as the least advanced from Corsair until CV and VS appeared.
i have firsthand experience with these budget Corsair products—
older CX models were susceptible to coil whine
and i've seen several VS units where the fan was already failing,
producing bothersome noises.
if you're purchasing a new PSU, it wouldn't be wise to go below RM650e in 2025 for Corsair units—
this is essentially a more advanced version of their B tier offerings.
your system isn't consuming excessive power—
the Ryzen 5500 draws about 50-60w under stress tests,
while the 6500xt barely reaches 90w during gaming (with microsecond spikes roughly doubling that).
the rest of the setup stays around 50w combined.
even with GPU surges, your total draw stays under 300w
in most cases.
the issue lies in that high-quality 650w units often cost nearly as much as 750 or 850w models.
so opting for a more powerful unit can be more economical in the long run.
