I've bought Corning's Optical Thunderbolt 3 cable, but it doesn't connect properly. The dock works with a short copper Thunderbolt cable, yet it fails to recognize the optical cable. Could you suggest some troubleshooting steps? I'm having trouble finding any solutions.
Optics can't carry electricity, so any attempt to draw power won't work. The dock has a power connector, but I'm unsure if it's linked to all devices. Probably the first step is confirming the dock receives proper power.
That's a great note. The light confirms it's running, but it might be related to BIOS configurations.
The optical wiring cable is fully self-contained, making it unlikely for a computer to detect any wiring issues. An early version of Thunderbolt used full optical connectivity, but I suspect if such a cable existed today it would likely use a completely different connector. My biggest concern is that the cable might be DOA.
Interestingly, I managed to get it to function! In a final attempt, I switched the PCIe slot the card used and it started working. It seems that using the South Bridge with the 16_3 slot on my motherboard caused all TB3 devices to stop working. However, connecting it to the 16_2 slot on the North Bridge resolved the issue immediately. Odd, but hopefully this helps someone later!
