Hi! Your CPU cooler change seems to be affecting the 2 cores more than the others. You might want to check the physical placement of the 0 and 2 cores on the CPU to see if they’re on different sides. Since their temperatures are similar, it could point to poor contact or airflow issues on one side.
There will usually be some disparity between the core temps, usually in the 5c range on average.. if its greater than 10c, thats usually an indication of other issues with either the TIM between the die and IHS, the TIM between the IHS and cooler, IHS flatness etc...
Within a modest range, the difference wouldn't significantly affect me since core performance varies—some cores can slightly outperform others.
Yeah, the difference is big ... on some Prime95 load 70C versus 57C It's a real hassle to take it apart and put it together just to do it again. So maybe there could be some prediction - what side has cores 0 and 2?
The CPU appears to be delidded with liquid metal between the IHS, though it wasn't fixed in place. My earlier cooler worked similarly—no reattachment. Thermal paste seems to be covering everything. I’ve already adjusted the cooling settings and managed to get the computer running again on a second try (five long beeps, no further issues).
It seems the problem stems from an uneven IHS causing instability. Adjusting your IHS to make it flat should likely fix the issue.
Interesting. The earlier cooler seemed similar in IHS and liquid metal, with core-to-core temperature gaps staying around 2-3 degrees at most. Possibly the CPU cores and IHS had poor contact. Unfortunately, I don’t have a workbench to verify the temperatures before assembling everything.
This demonstrates how a slightly smoothed image can improve clarity.
I just re-applied liquid metal and thermal paste, and the variation is reduced. Still, one core remains noticeably warmer than the rest. I’m curious about where core 0 is... but IHS should be covered, that’s what I think. Now I’ve managed to keep things under control.
