Hey there! I'm trying to figure out a good option for you and your son. You mentioned you enjoy Lego games together, which is great since that's the only local split-screen PC franchise you've found. Your son loves NFS, especially Most Wanted, but he's also interested in something new. It seems buying the full game is more cost-effective than getting DLC for the older titles.

You're looking for a PC version that supports split-screen co-op, especially since your son is 7 and prefers open-world driving over racing games. While Fast and the Furious does offer split-screen, it doesn't quite match the vibe you're after. NFS Rivals might be a possibility, but there aren't many options for PC at the moment. I hope you find something fun that fits both of your tastes!

Likewise here. The majority of enjoyable PC games don't allow split-screen functionality. Do you have another machine? You might install a powerful graphics card there, connect both systems via LAN, and then play together. Otherwise, you're limited to using a console.

I’m checking which titles work well in LAN mode.

Search for an appealing title, check its LAN compatibility, and find setup instructions. You should have two copies unless the game allows multiple installations.

It seems most people would require two separate copies because I can't use the same Steam or Origin account on both computers simultaneously, even over a local network. Have you encountered this situation before? Do you have any knowledge about it? Keeping just one account for a LAN game would be quite cumbersome.

I configured LAN on a few PS2 consoles for Battlefront, and that's roughly it.

Get the dolphin emulator and try to obtain a Mario Kart Wii. We spent around 2000 hours on it. It was really enjoyable.

It seems you’d need to look up split-screen titles. Based on what I know, options are limited, and most focus now on online multiplayer versus LAN play. A few co-op games exist on Steam, but confirm they support local LAN. There might be more available, though. Some highly rated titles include arcade shooters and racing games with split-screen features—like the older arcade style or newer versions. You could also check for discounts during Steam’s summer sale if you’re concerned about purchasing duplicates.
