Hello! I had this concept for a while, but I couldn't bring it to life. The goal is to run Windows XP on my old Acer tablet. It would be really helpful if someone could assist, since I don’t have $100 to buy a used laptop. Thanks!

Hello, and welcome to the forum! Windows XP runs on x86, while your tablet most likely uses ARM. Hence you can't do this without an emulator. Then the performance will be very very bad. What tablet model is it?

WinXP isn't compatible with the platform. Also, drivers play a big role. It doesn't support touch controls, which would require a custom driver. Most drivers would need to be tailored because XP existed long before tablets or smartphones.

There were numerous devices in the business sector that supported touch functionality. Windows XP, however, wasn't optimized for touch input, so applications often mimic cursor movement or mouse clicks to simulate touch. These tools were mainly used for particular tasks. In short, Windows XP is unlikely to support a contemporary tablet that wasn't built for it. It's probable your device relies on ARM technology and possibly UEFI or chainloading, neither of which are compatible with XP. Driver support would be extremely limited. Even with a newer OS like Windows 10, installing and booting such a tablet would be a rare occurrence.

Typically these gadgets relied on resistive displays. It's unclear how that influenced the driver side of things, but I recall using a Panasonic Toughbook with a resistive screen and dragging the cursor around. Still, customization was likely required since those devices often used touch screens.

What do you require from Windows XP? If your system already runs Windows 10, you could easily set up a Windows XP virtual machine much more conveniently. This approach may suit your situation.
