Ensure the label is attached to the bottom of the chassis with a sticker. Upgrading to version 10 allows using built-in restore to return to version 8.1. A clean install will remove restore functionality, requiring a reinstall of Windows 8 if desired.

The Windows 8 activation key is stored on your UEFI chip. It shouldn’t be replaced by Windows 10. These are software tools that can retrieve the key for you, so you can keep a copy if needed.
