Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a new monitor – the LG UltraGear 27GN750-B at 240Hz. I’m a casual player with friends in Valorant, and I noticed this model includes FreeSync Premium. I’d like some advice on whether to keep it enabled or not through the OSD.

Typically, I don’t play at full native resolution in-game. I prefer 4:3 formats such as 1440x1080 or 1280x960. In those settings, I usually see around 300-400 frames per second in a single lobby, with peaks reaching 180 at the lowest and 300 at the highest.

Given that I’m using 240Hz, should I keep FreeSync on for a smoother experience? Also, what does the variable refresh rate setting in Windows 10 mean? Should I take it into account? (It’s currently off by default.)

I’m also curious about enabling 4:3 resolutions at 240Hz. Since I usually have to enable GPU scaling to get 144Hz on display scaling, is it worth adjusting the display to 144Hz and aiming for a higher FPS instead? In that scenario, should FreeSync remain active or turned off?

Another point: disabling Hyperthreading in the BIOS removed the multi-threaded rendering option in-game. Should I leave it ON? (I stopped using it after playing CSGO, where turning HT OFF dropped my FPS to around 300fps when HT was ON.)

Lastly, I’d like to know how to configure my panel for a custom refresh rate such as 165Hz, 180Hz, or 200Hz if possible, to enhance the overall gaming experience (similar to CRU).

Thanks!

If you are consistently getting above 240 FPS, then leave it off. If you are getting below that and screen tearing is noticeably annoying, turn it on.
Whatever refresh rate the monitor should be at depends on you. If you're fine with 144Hz, then I don't see why not.
Whether FreeSync should be on or not, see the previous answer.
Generally yes. Otherwise you've reduced your CPU's performance to that of an i5-7600. But if CS:GO is the only game you play or play primarily, then sure, you can leave it off if you can't find a solution to this problem and you really want 300 FPS.

FreeSync serves as a comparable alternative to Nvidia's GSync, offering better performance and lower resource demands than VSync.
