If it functions, things should be okay. The usual suggestion is to avoid touching the visible metal parts (pads, pins, terminals) with your hands since static buildup can cause damage by jumping from your skin into the components. Items such as capacitors, resistors, and diodes don’t need protection against static electricity; most other board parts already have built-in safeguards, though they aren’t foolproof and might fail if a strong discharge occurs. You risk harming your motherboard if you’re struck by static and your fingers come within a centimeter or less of a chip lacking anti-static features, especially if the discharge causes the protection to break down. In short, there are many conditions that could trigger this scenario—keep your hands away from exposed metal and use proper handling methods.
