Need help finding affordable options for a birthday gift this Tuesday. Looking for the best budget CPU in the $120-$150 range and a motherboard around $250. Want suggestions to compare and decide.

3300x or a 1600AF works well in most cases unless the task is heavily parallel. That said, spending $250 on the board seems excessive compared to the CPU cost—why is the budget for the board so much higher than what the CPU needs?

neither 250 nor 3300 appears anywhere in this section, so they’re not valid options

Ah, well either a 3100/3300x If the 3300x isn't available, the 3100 will do the job. And so will the 1600 af if you fine one. As for the board. B450 pro 4m, mortar max should do the job.

I just contacted the shop—they list 3100, 3200, and 3400g options, and I might order a B450 board with that weight.

PCPartPicker list shows various components. The CPU is a Ryzen 5 3600 at 3.6 GHz with six cores, priced at $174.99 and available from B&H. The motherboard is an ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 model, costing $85.99 from the same retailer. All prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts. Combined total comes to $260.98. This setup looks solid; the 3600 model is near $160, though it’s a bit pricey at the moment.
