Absolutely, they certainly could, but warranties don't extend that far. Personally, I would opt for the AM5 route as it provides a more "future-proofed" upgrade path since AMD has guaranteed support for this socket until 2026.

Personally, I'm not a major AMD supporter. I've been using Intel i Series CPUs for quite some time... I prefer to stick with what I know best...

I thought a 12900k (Outdated? Yes) was a solid choice, plus DDR5 on Z690 doesn't really function optimally, which is why I switched to a Z790 instead of a Z690....
Also, I was discussing this with King Dranzer... he questioned my decision for the 12900k, but I informed him I genuinely wanted one, as I still consider it "high-end" in my opinion, but it is a better option than a 10900k or an 11700k.
Additionally, I already possess a 13700k in another build of mine (Main Rig), so why should I select a 13700 or 13700KF? Or go for a 13600k...
2021? That's not old yet; life progresses too quickly, clouding our judgment on things. Why purchase something new and shiny when the older item still serves its purpose well?

Yes, I still uphold my decision. Admittedly, the 12900k is outdated and gets outperformed by newer CPUs, but I overlook that because, at the end of the day, a CPU is a CPU. It's not like I'm suggesting to buy a 4790k or 8700k brand new in 2023....
Intel didn't create the 12900k for no reason; I chose a 12900k, and I will stand by my decision..... Yes, the $400 price is a bit steep... but the 12th Gen CPUs are not that bad and still deliver reasonable performance....

It all hinges on the level of performance you require. Nonetheless, a build like that should offer satisfactory performance in games for a considerable time. I would anticipate a minimum of 4 years of robust performance.

Does any of this make sense? All existing B660, Z690 B760, & Z790 Motherboards should function with all 14th Gen CPUs....provided a BIOS Update,
Then again, there is a brand new socket LGA 1851 for 14th Gen CPUs. I'm uncertain what to trust anymore...

I believe the initial plan was for the 14th gen Meteor Lake to debut on desktop. However, this was postponed and will instead be substituted with Raptor Lake refresh, which will remain on LGA 1700. Next year, the 15th gen Arrow Lake will be launched, which will be an enhanced version of Meteor Lake on LGA 1851. As long as the board supports BIOS flashback, a 600 or 700 series board should work properly.
