Hi, I am so new at overclocking and I don't know what kinds of voltages are stable at 5.1 ghz overclock for an 8700k. Now, I do know that the overclock database exists, but it's hard to find only the results for my cpu. If you own the same cpu as me and has it overclocked to 5.1ghz, please share the stable voltage. Yes, silicon lottery is a thing, but I can at least get an idea of what other people's chips are like, and the level of my chip.

Aim for a voltage below 1.35-1.4v, you won't grasp your CPU's full potential to hit 5.1GHz until you tweak it gradually and test. It's a lengthy journey, but safely pushing performance limits is better over time. Begin with the stock voltage and observe the maximum stable frequency you reach. Start around 1.15v to 1.20v and experiment!

Sure, I noticed you sometimes power down the computer at 1.335 volts. I'm curious to know if going above 1.35 would be okay.

Increasing the voltage you apply to the CPU raises the amount of heat it produces. When your cooling system is sufficient, you can safely increase the voltage, but if temperatures aren't low enough, stay below 1.45v Intel suggests. I think the value mentioned is excessively high! Also, even if you adjust your BIOS settings to 1.335 or 1.35, the actual voltage applied can vary based on CPU loading and other configurations like adaptive voltage control and stability settings.

I understand, it's about 0.12 volts higher than what I intended. Adaptive voltage seems to be a problem.

Keeping it at 4.2 was a safe choice if temperatures stay around 1.35v under load and it runs smoothly. If you're aiming for higher speeds, figure out what's causing the crashes—my issue was with my Z87's memory. You might try slightly raising the System agent voltage, using tiny adjustments.
