Consider upgrading your motherboard soon and obtain the official Windows version. As a student, you qualify for discounted pricing on Microsoft’s online store (70$ for Windows 8.1 Pro full). If your institution is enrolled in MSDNAA or Dreamspark Premium, Windows 8.1 is available free of charge. If you’re unsure, it’s advisable—though not necessary—to use a Microsoft account for accessing the App Store, music services (subscriptions required), video rentals, and other features.
Windows 8 will start faster after a shutdown compared to older versions. Restarting should feel similar. Windows 8 fully supports UEFI, so if your system is UEFI enabled (and you keep it enabled), using an SSD can allow booting from the power button “click” sound to a fully loaded desktop in just six seconds. Windows 7 lacks UEFI support, but all its functionality remains intact under Windows 8.x.
Stick to legitimate sources whenever possible. OS integrity matters—avoid pirated versions that may hide security risks or instability. There’s a learning curve to adapt to the new Start Screen and interface, which usually takes about a month.
You might wait a bit longer for Windows 10—it will be available for current Windows 7 users at no cost...
Was das wirklich ein Witz? Ich war kurz davor, nicht mehr einen Startmenü zu haben.
