I’ve checked some gaming benchmarks and saw that some titles perform better on the 10900K than the 11900K, while others don’t. I went ahead and bought the 10900K because a video showed it maintaining similar frame rates in many games, sometimes even higher. I’m still unsure if I made the right choice between the two CPUs. My plan is to build a full custom EK loop on my PC, so I don’t want to disassemble it later. I’m leaning toward the 10900K since I already have an Intel i9 10900K and an ASUS Strix 3090 OC. I also have a G.Skill Trident Z Royal with 32GB at 3200 MHz, which I’ll order soon. I’ll run a full EK loop on both GPU and CPU, aiming for 1440p now and possibly upgrading to 4K later. I’d appreciate advice from anyone who can help me decide whether to stick with the 10900K or switch to the 11900K.

Sure, glad you found the info helpful. I thought the 10900k would perform better in games compared to the 11900k due to its additional cores and the fact that most games use multithreading. I’m leaning toward choosing the 10900k for this situation.

Discussed last month with the 11700k Anandtech data. Selected the 10900KF since it was just $399 and felt like a better value. It offers quick RAM and overclocking capability, matching the performance of the 5000 series chips. I’m satisfied with the choice. Avoid DDR 3200 memory; opt for 4000+ instead. Contrary to common opinion, Intel gains from RAM speed, particularly under CPU constraints. This isn’t always tested because scenarios often focus on GPU limits. One CPU-dependent game illustrates how memory speed significantly impacts performance. 3200 works for most builds, but with a 3090 and a 10-core CPU, faster memory is advisable.

The difference in price between the models exceeds $100, making a 10% improvement irrelevant. As @Mister Woof mentioned, a 10900kf is priced near $400 (about $420 at B&H), which offers good value relative to Ryzen processors.

Many popular YouTubers used the i9 11900k without all the overclocking, making their base performance less impressive. One channel successfully utilized every feature. The i9 11900k remains a strong choice compared to the expensive i9 10900k, which is similarly priced to the R7 5800X. These two CPUs are currently top-tier for gaming. I still own my i9 10900k. When benchmarking it against TVB at stock settings versus my R7 5800X, the i9 consistently outperforms at higher resolutions. Since I don’t play much in 1080p, I prefer the i9. PCIe 4 hasn’t noticeably improved performance on the Ryzen, so I’m fine without it. If the price of the i9 11900k appeals you, consider getting one. I’m satisfied with my i9 10900k and plan to upgrade only when necessary. My R7 5800X has solid benchmarks but hasn’t surpassed the stock i9 10900k or my older i7 8086K (5GHz all cores) in 1440p/4K games. I mainly use the R7 for modded building games to test if extra IPC matters. It helps, so I’m content with it. Both CPUs handle games smoothly, but watching frame rates will still be entertaining.

In high FPS competitive titles, 10900k performs better, whereas 11900k could improve later with microcode updates—so I’d go with 10900k. If you haven’t got the motherboard yet, the 5950x is the best option to maximize a 3090’s potential.

If I had received the price tag, I would have picked the 5900x instead of the 10900KF. Clearly, the 5900x was a better option compared to the 11900k.

The cost isn't important to you. I'm just looking for the top gaming CPU in that range—between the 10900K and 11900K. I wasn't sure which one would be better depending on the games, but I saw a video you shared and noticed some titles perform better with the 11900K while others don’t. I’m still unsure between the two and would appreciate your advice. Which one should I choose? Thanks!

The 10900K is considered one of the top options among the 10900K and 11900K for gaming. I understand you're okay with the higher price of the 11900K if it offers the best CPU performance available right now, even just a slight improvement. Looking for the top LGA 1200 gaming CPU on the market today, regardless of the minor gains.
