I just wanted to gather some people’s thoughts on whether I should purchase the Vive or not. Just to make sure everyone understands – I don’t have a lot of money. Spending £800 on this isn’t an issue, but I’m not wealthy either, and I wouldn’t want to waste £800 just to get bored after a few minutes. I ordered the Vive from Scan and it’s set for delivery today. I canceled it because some reviews mentioned it becomes dull and the games feel basic. After reading more opinions, I’m starting to wonder if I should go back and cancel my order so I can still receive it on time. I’m looking for a new title to play. Usually I enjoy League of Wars, WoW, Hearthstone, H1Z1, and rarely Garry’s Mod. I don’t find games that are easy or single-player that really engage me. When I’m playing something really demanding like WoW, I often switch to Netflix to avoid getting bored. I have a high tolerance for games and get bored much quicker than most people. So does this mean I’m not the right person for the Vive? What draws me to it is that I’ve never heard anyone say anything other than “It was completely mind-blowing” when they try it. Many say even after months they still want more, which sounds like something I’d be interested in. On the flip side, the gaming scene tends to overpromise a lot. Games like Man of the Hills, Fallout 4, The Division, The Witcher 3, Star Wars Battlefront—all known for being overhyped and fading quickly. Is this true with the Vive? Will it become outdated and forgotten? All the available titles for the Vive seem expensive, no trial periods, and they’re generally simple experiences—often just shooting waves of AI enemies. I noticed games like Hover Junkers and that one war game look promising, but are they something I could play regularly? I wouldn’t buy this if it was only something I’d grab occasionally. For me, the Vive needs to deliver something substantial to fill the long hours I waste browsing Reddit. Are there other games beyond just AI shooters? The biggest worry is the actual technology. While it’s marketed as revolutionary, to me it feels more like a decent display attached to motion sensors with camera tracking. Isn’t that what we’ve had for years? Why does the Vive seem so “revolutionary”? Is this tech going to be replaced soon? Like I mentioned, it doesn’t appear to be especially groundbreaking—this is similar to what Samsung’s VR offers today, which already has many of those sensors. Shouldn’t a new headset cost half as much next year with better specs? Is the current Vive worth it? Future-proof? Can it handle triple-A games? So, to sum up: I want the Vive because most people claim it’s truly immersive and fun, even simple games are enjoyable. I get bored quickly. On the other hand, the games look underwhelming and repetitive. No triple-A titles. The tech doesn’t seem as immersive as claimed—what really makes it feel that way?

Oculus Rift completely blew my mind the first time I tried it. The Vive is even more mind blowing. Still, there is lots of room for polish and not that many games and games are expensive. If you want to buy one, dive right in. You will like it, but expect to spend a lot on games. Don't listen to the nay sayers - VR is really awesome.

Few games offer engaging experiences in VR. Yet it’s really impressive, and players keep diving in until they’ve exhausted every detail.

Sure thing! So you're worried it might get dull? Honestly, I'm not too concerned. I'm always up for a good time and have plenty of spare moments. I'm probably diving into a lot of VR soon. What do you think—will you feel bored quickly?

Sure, the live experience is great, though the game choices seem limited right now. Maybe things will improve soon?

Many believe future upgrades will improve performance, while the Vive does indeed handle triple-A titles. It seems this particular headset was likely designed as an entry-level project rather than a high-end solution.

It's not a development kit—it's an official consumer gadget. Whispers suggest Vive will introduce an updated model this autumn. Hold off for a few months and observe the developments. This won't be an entirely new item; it'll resemble a refined Vive version 1.5.
