GPU: GeForce RTX 3070 TI MoBo: ASRock B450M Steel Legend CPU: Ryzen 5 3600XT RAM: 16GB PSU: EVGA 500 GD, 80+ GOLD I’m thinking about improving my setup. I’ll replace the power supply and add 32 GB of memory. I’m also evaluating a new CPU and motherboard. UserBenchmark shows the Ryzen 7 5700X and 5800X offer roughly a 15% boost over the Ryzen 5. I checked SLI-compatible boards, but they’re mostly limited. My usage isn’t heavy for rendering or mining—just gaming, work, and video editing. A VR game is the only demanding task. Should I go ahead with the changes?

Improving the CPU can be a worthwhile move, a 5600 offers a significant boost over the 3600 XT, yet changing the motherboard doesn't make much sense. AM4 is no longer viable, and the board only impacts performance if it's not suitable for the CPU—especially with single CCD chips like the B450m Steel Legend, which are manageable. The main reason to switch boards would be if you're dealing with a failing chip, in which case upgrading to AM5 or 13th gen Intel might be more practical, as costs could remain similar when targeting an X570 board. Rely on user benchmarks with caution; their results tend to be skewed. Opt for more credible references instead.

I upgraded from a 3600XT to a 5600X — really impressive!

Independent reviewers such as Hardware Unboxed and Gamer Nexus provide real performance data and visual insights. You don’t need to modify the motherboard—just install a 5600, 5600x, or 5800x3d card. For those seeking value, the 5800x3d offers strong performance at a reasonable price, making it an excellent match with that GPU.

actual assessment, like in Hardware Unboxed. They conduct extensive testing... the 3600XT won't appear in the graphs, but it's only slightly inferior to the 3600X. I'd focus on the 3600X results and note that the 3600XT is marginally better.

Upgrading to an AM5 board could be beneficial, but consider your needs before deciding.

What resolution are you using? I'm currently running at 1440p ultrawide, though my GPU is often constrained.

Upgrading to AM5 means you'd need a different CPU, motherboard, and RAM. In my view, it's not worthwhile unless you have funds available. If you can afford it, consider getting a 5800X3D and swapping in your 3600XT for a better setup.

My screen is great, but I’m okay with lowering it if performance drops.
