Looking to upgrade to a 5090
Current specs are:
Gpu: 4070ti ---> 5090
Cpu: i7-13700k
mobo: msi mag z790 tomahawk wifi
ram: gskill trident 2x16 ddr5-6400
psu: 1000w
ssd: 2tb and a 4tb hdd
cpu is 3 fan water cooled
4 fans on case 7 including cpu cooler
I’ve done a lot of research and everything suggests my CPU and mobo will work after a BIOS update. It should fit in my case, and I intend to keep playing at 5120x1440 ultrawide. Are there any concerns?

I'm aware of the problems with the 12VHPWR connector burning. There haven't been any reliable fixes found. Solutions like the 2x-6 connector, right angle design, or making sure it's fully seated don't really prevent these issues. It seems the specifications are not up to the task, and it might depend on the specific model between users.

I understand. I wasn't really aware of any burning problems. I've mostly seen positive feedback, especially after the 40 series. My power supply came with a 6+2-12v connector that hasn't been affected, and it seems to be a better choice than what's included with the card. Would this be something you should be concerned about? Do they offer refunds?

Its unfortunately an issue with the spec, it is inherently flawed, but Nvidia has pushed it on the vendors, and every 5070 and higher, has to use the 12VHPWR connector. Even if you follow all of the guidelines, and take all of the precautions, there isn't a guarantee that it wont happen. Granted the chances of this happening are relatively low, but it isn't an issue that the older 8 pin pcie power standard had to deal with. It needs a full redesign, a bigger connector with a higher amount of rated insertions, thicker gauge cables and pins, over current protection. It was a badly implemented idea to begin with, and people generally figured that it would cause issues when the original spec was released. But for some foolish reason, Nvidia seems committed. "You're holding it wrong" i guess.

The 5090 is a powerful unit and a worthwhile purchase. Keep these points in mind:

2. Before my current PSU (Aorus 1200W), I used a Zalman Watttera 1000W Full Modular 80 Plus Gold. It wasn’t as high quality, but it had trouble managing the 5090, leading to frequent shutdowns and restarts.
You may want to consider a more powerful power supply for better reliability.
