Considering a PC part upgrade, is it beneficial to invest in overclocking components?
Hi guys, I'm thinking about upgrading my MMO CPU and RAM mainly for PUGB and upcoming games. Here are my current specs:
GTX 970 4gb
A10 7860k
8gb DDR3 1600mhz
A68hm-k
Corsair VS550
I'm considering an OC build versus the stock setup. Which one is better in terms of price and future performance? I'm looking at Asrock Z270 Extreme 4 or a cheap B250M (no OC), plus i57600k or i57600. Same RAM, 16gb DDR4 2400mhz.
Also, I plan to upgrade to an Intel 1070 next Christmas. Will either of these CPUs cause a bottleneck? Do I need to replace my PSU? Thanks in advance.
Hey, the i5 CPUs you mentioned are quite outdated. 😀 Right now I’d choose the i5-8400 (non-OC) or i5-8600k (OC) models. The cost is about 200 Euros. Both use the Z370 chipset. It’s a shame that RAM is so costly right now. I’d prefer DDR4-3000, especially if I were considering a Ryzen option. That would add another 200 Euros. The 970 series should work well for PUBG. Of course, there’s always room for upgrades like the 1070 (Ti) or 1080. EDIT: In this review you can see that for PUBG the CPU isn’t the main performance bottleneck: Still, if I were buying, I’d opt for an i5-8600k plus a good air cooler.
