considering a boost for your local internet setup in Australia
Hello everyone, I'm trying to upgrade from my Telstra modem/router to something that lets me adjust settings like port forwarding, DNS, and more for a future server. I'm not sure where to begin searching, but I need recommendations that are practical and not overly gaming-focused. My current system connects via the wall into the modem/router using a long Ethernet cable to my computer, which works well but feels limited and not easily expandable. Any suggestions would be really helpful!
i believe i've discovered a good modem/replacer. i plan to buy one myself, look for a small isp device, and set up a router for wifi and ethernet ports. space is limited where the phone line goes, so i don't want multiple internet and voip devices. using a tp-link archer vr2100v could work well.
Confirm with Telstra you can use your own modem. DSL isn’t guaranteed, and other ISPs often require approval to ensure compatibility and proper setup. They may also provide login details if needed. Check if this fits your budget and availability in your area. Always verify approval from your ISP first.
