so i just bought a new motherboard and cpu (aorus master and I9-9900K) and was wondering if i should buy the corsair rgb pro ram 2x8 3000 mhz cl 15 and buy it twice so i can have 4x8-32 gb because there on sale on best buy. Or wait until there is a sale on 2x16 ram. I would be upgrading from this - https://www.newegg.com/geil-8gb-288-pin-...ption=geil 2133&cm_re=geil_2133-_-20-158-237-_-Product Also i mainly game on 1080p and watch youtube or twitch on my PC.

This means you’re unsure about the setup, and it sounds like you might be limited to just two RAM sticks instead of four.

Yes, and also 9900k support 2666MHz. That means your 3000MHz RAM will remain capped at 2666. Just a note.

Why does my board have four slots instead of two? If only two could be used, what frequency should I choose—two 8GHz or two 16GHz chips?

It's similar to using a different pair if one is faulty, plus it helps with marketing. Gaming? 2 X 8 works. Working? 2 X 16 is better. Streaming 16 is usually sufficient but it depends.

The J-dec standard for minimum speed is 2666MHz. 3000MHz should work without problems, just enable XMP Nope, each RAM slot can hold up to 2 DIMMs, and you can install two. This means a quad channel board (x99/x299) will offer 4-8 slots, while a dual channel board provides 2-4 slots. ALL functions are intact. To simplify, distribute RAM evenly across channels—start with the leftmost slot, then the one two slots over, keeping a gap of one slot between sticks. This pattern continues until all slots are filled. It’s frustrating when advice is wrong; you should research before giving bad tips that waste time and money. You’ll need 32GB now, so it’s fine. If you require more later, dual 16GB DIMMs are better because they let you add two extra slots. Worth the extra cost eventually.

It seems I got a bit mixed up watching videos on YouTube about high-resolution settings. For your storage question, if you're aiming for 32 GB, choosing 2x16 or 4x8 should work well depending on your needs.

The variation isn't significant either direction, and the 4x8 will appear more spacious. I’d choose 2x16 since I prefer a little extra space, though it’s not a big deal overall.

A key point to consider is whether you require that much storage for your activities. For simple gaming, only a few gigabytes are necessary; 16GB offers extra space. More memory becomes crucial for other tasks. There’s a solid case for 4TB in certain scenarios if it’s affordable. (But it must still be budget-friendly) Based on your situation, I’d likely choose two 8TB drives and keep them unless you plan to use them for anything else.
