Ddr3 works adequately. The need for m.2 slots isn't necessary; sata ssds provide ample storage for both gaming and everyday tasks. They perform comparably to the quickest nvme drives, so any difference is negligible.
Userbenchmark isn't ideal for checking performance, but generally the 4790k performs consistently across single-core tasks and improves with multiple cores. Therefore, purchasing a 7600k setup might mean getting a less capable machine. For serious upgrades, consider Ryzen options.
Also worth mentioning is that the 4790k supports hyperthreading, which currently makes a big difference for 4-core processors in many recent titles.
I’d still be relying on my 4790K unless it were for the 8086k. Many Z97 boards come with an NVMe port. userbenchmark isn’t great, but a 7600K is clearly a slower option for gaming compared to a 4790K.
You can simply purchase a new one since Ryzen offers great value for money.
