I’m considering swapping out my current router. Right now I use the Linksys WRT32X, but it’s been giving me trouble and the Ethernet speeds aren’t very solid. For instance, when I connect directly via my modem I get around 950mb/s, whereas through the router and a switch it drops to about 500mb/s. I tried using a friend’s router and got noticeably better performance. I’m browsing Best Buy for some options, as I have store credit and am an employee. Here are a few models I’m thinking about:

- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/netgear-nig...Id=6332189
- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/linksys-max...Id=6370647
- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-wirele...Id=6377908
- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-ac3100...Id=4465000
- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tp-link-arc...Id=6351103

These fit roughly my budget (around $250–280). My main priority is LAN/Ethernet performance, so I’m not sure if there’s a specific way to check how they compare. The Wi-Fi speeds seem adequate for my devices, and I’d appreciate more detailed reviews or comparisons from others. Thanks in advance!

This post suggests using a different router with a tailored firmware instead.

It's possible this could affect your performance on Ethernet, but it depends on the specifics.

After much frustration, it finally worked with the new firmware. I didn’t make many changes, but we’ll see results over time.
