I own a laptop with limited power, purchased new this summer without any software. It runs extremely slowly, even for basic tasks like browsing. A friend recommended switching to Linux, but I only use it for web browsing and still experience significant lag. Clearing the hard drive and installing Linux might help improve performance? The device feels very slow, taking several seconds just to pause a YouTube video.

A lightweight Linux system might be useful. Another choice when moving to an SSD, particularly given their recent price drops.

Based on my observations: it really makes a big difference. I tried it with an old laptop, and the results were quite positive.

I can suggest several distros that support web browsing and video playback, including Flash Java HTML5. For applications like Word, you might find options such as Chrome OS or Windows 10 Insider Preview useful, though they’re not essential right now.

What is this? It seems to be a standard 320GB storage device with about 4GB of memory. At my workplace, it’s probably just a typical setup.

If this were an Emmuc setup, storage would be limited to 32GB, similar to using flash drives which can be slow. Check your system monitor for page faults. When reviewing, share your model and CPU details.

Consider using an SSD if you need Windows. If not, any version of Ubuntu works well, though I just tested Solus and it looks promising.

Consider restarting the installation to remove unnecessary software from the maker.

It was my initial thought too, but it shouldn’t slow down the computer constantly. I’ll check later when I’m back. No, I won’t be investing in this kind of thing. Plus, I don’t know how to fix the storage on a laptop.
