Games don't necessarily require a fresh version of Windows. The existing Win32 framework and DirectX support are still available. You should be able to play most titles on Windows 10 TP with only minor issues. I'd prefer Windows 8.1 instead of outdated Windows 7.

To install Windows 10, you need to download the official installation media from the Microsoft website and follow the setup instructions.

8.1 Then claim 10 for a year free, after that upgrade. Or wait for 10.

8.1 many folks attempt to stay current—only a handful of them enjoy the perks of 8.1 plus a free upgrade, while the rest seem to think I'm off the mark.

Upgrading to Windows 10 is free if you switch within a year of its release. It feels more like a monthly subscription than a one-time purchase.
