You're weighing two upgrade paths. Selling your whole AM4 setup might give you an AM5 with a 7600X for $100, while selling just the CPU could yield a 5800X3D for $200. Decide based on which component you value more and your current needs.

You could switch platforms if you want to. Are you close to a Microcenter?

If you lack a B550 or X570 motherboard, you might need to switch platforms. PCIe 4.0 compatibility varies—maybe negligible or significant based on your gear. Typically, if your AM4 setup isn’t at its absolute best and you don’t intend to upgrade the GPU or storage, it should work fine on PCIe 3.0. Otherwise, moving to a newer platform would be beneficial. With a B550/X570 that supports PCIe 4.0, pairing it with a solid 2x16GB 3200/3600 RAM setup makes a CPU upgrade the most cost-effective choice. The 5800X3D competes well against Ryzen 7000 in many games and still edges out in many poorly optimized multiplayer titles.
