Consider upgrading to a more recent motherboard with better features at a lower cost. Look for options that support newer CPUs and offer improved performance without breaking the bank.

5000 series won't match B450 and X470 until January. However, some well-prepared B550 boards offer similar features to budget X470 models and work with 3000 series and 5000 series CPUs. (And a 4000 if you ever find one out there)

Fortunately, I’ll start assembling my PC this January.

If you spot a budget X470 motherboard at that point, it could be a strong deal—but remember, adding a second or third-gen Ryzen CPU is needed to make it work. The X470 isn’t offering much value these days. On the other hand, a mid-range B450 board works fine, while a high-end B550 really shines for gaming now.

The only more affordable boards available don’t offer spec benefits compared to equally priced B550 and X570 models, especially outside the US. This seems true across most regions—UK, Australia, Canada included—as well as in countries with limited choices like Germany. Even there, the B550 delivers solid performance.
