With the latest generation of GPUs and CPUs arriving by December, I planned to purchase a motherboard now and save up for the CPU and GPU later. I’m leaning toward a 4th generation Ryzen processor. I’ve reviewed many hardware unboxings and VRM tests, and with a budget under $150 (excluding the B550 Tomahawk), I’ve limited my choices to the following models: MSI B550 Tomahawk, MSI B550-A Pro, MSI B550M, Asus B550, Tuf Plus, Asus X570, Prime-Pro, Gigabyte B550, and Aorus Pro. I chose only the B550 and X570 chipsets because it’s believed that new-gen cards will hit PCIe 3.0 bandwidth limits, potentially creating a bottleneck without PCIe 4.0 support. That’s why I’m avoiding any risks.
I wouldn't recommend the Asus Prime or A-Pro; the B550 Tomahawk and Aorus Pro seem to be better options for you.

Sure thing. Here are some alternative board ideas that fit within the 150-180$ budget. They’re all affordable and suitable for modern processors. I’m leaning toward 3600 or 3700X models with 6 or 8 cores, using stock coolers. I’m open to Intel options as long as the overall cost stays under 500-550$. I’m not very familiar with Z490 boards, but I think they offer better power delivery compared to many B550 options. Not every high-end board is perfect, and not every cheap one is bad. I’m also keeping an eye on the upcoming Ampere release and am starting to feel a bit impatient since I was planning to build a PC four months ago. I might skip Zen 3 or Big Navi if they’re not needed. TL;DR – these boards should handle my needs, even after upgrading later. What do you think about other features like I/O speed, M.2 slots, or brand-exclusive perks?
If you're waiting for zen 3, I'd wait and then decide on a board but to answer your question. 10 ISL99360's. 5 4C029N and 5 4C024N doubled with IR3598's. 8 ISL99360's. 10 sic639's. I don't remember the vrm but I think it's the same as the x570 tuf but I could be wrong, if it is then it's 12 sic639's. 6 sic651's or 654's (forgot but they're both 50a Drmos either way) doubled with ISL6617's. And honestly all of these are more than enough for a 3700x, the x570 prime pro does come with well the x570 chipset meaning pcie gen 4 across the board. But in terms of vrm, the tomahawk is probably one of the better ones out of these.
Sure, the Prime Pro shares the same VRM as the X570 TUF and another ROG B550 board. I’m not sure which one (the F) is correct. I’m okay with getting any of these boards delivered.
