Yes, it does assist, though there may remain some issues with the monitor scaling poorly. Many people aren't familiar with DSR or similar concepts, so some games—particularly certain ones—can appear very bad because of these artifacts, or even the overall desktop setup.

i just had a revelation... 720p is *perfect* on 1440p monitor... I'd honestly prefer that over black bars xD
