I've owned my PC for roughly five years. I'm not sure if I should change the thermal paste or if it's even necessary.

It varies by paste; changing every couple of years helps prevent drying out. Swapping to Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut would be beneficial. I also noticed a significant temperature drop—over 15°C—in older laptops after repasting them.

Your PC is quite old. ^ Well, I guess I should have paid more attention from the start.

Long time coming! I switch it up each year, usually in May, when things start getting warm.

It's acceptable each year, though replacing it every two years seems reasonable given the PC's condition.

I perform this task annually and also maintain the PC. It has eight fans, including the CPU, and they require regular cleaning.

It’s a good practice to change thermal paste once a year or two, but in general if the temps are fine there’s nothing to worry about.
