I have these system details: a Ryzen 3600 CPU, 2x16GB RAM at 3600MHz, and an RX 6600 GPU. I’m trying to upgrade but have a tight budget—can only change one component. I’m considering either swapping the processor for a Ryzen 7 5700X3D while keeping the RX 6600, or upgrading the GPU to either an Intel Arc B580 or an RTX 4060TI while staying with the Ryzen 5 3600. For gaming at 1080p with a 144Hz monitor, what do you think would work best? Any suggestions appreciated!

I suggest upgrading the CPU. The 6600 works well for 1080p streaming, but stripping it down means choosing between a small to medium GPU upgrade or a big CPU upgrade. Selling the CPU can fund a GPU upgrade too, allowing you to invest in something more valuable than a 4060 paired with a 4070 or similar models. The 6750XT is currently a great deal for both performance and value, though prices may shift with future CPU releases.

Note: The 6750XT offers better value compared to the 8GB Ti model while providing more VRAM, or is much cheaper than the 16GB version.

I believe the situation isn't straightforward—it's a balance of factors. It leans toward a 60/40 split. The 3600 isn't a gaming chip, though it's a decent CPU. It was just one stage in AMD's progression to where we are now. The 6600 is fine but doesn't deliver strong 1080p at 144Hz. I own a 5600x3d with a 6650xt; they function well together, yet both represent improvements over what you have. Still, swapping one will expose weaknesses in the other. You'll likely need a new GPU—something like the 6750xt, which is solid but around $300. A b580 probably won't be easy to find, and even if it is, it may not play well with older hardware. The 4060ti isn't something I'd recommend due to its cost relative to performance. I think a 6750xt could really elevate your setup, possibly more than a 5700x3d, especially when paired with the 6600. In any case, both components should be upgraded for optimal results.

It's helpful to know this information. The Arch B580 has raised some concerns, especially regarding its performance on older processors like the Ryzen 5 3600. I appreciate the clarification!

Considering your experience with the RX 6600, you're looking to see if newer models like the 6650XT or 6750XT offer improvements. It's worth noting that these newer cards can sometimes address driver issues you've faced.

No problems with the driver on my 6650xt, 6900xt, 7900gre or 7900xtx models. You get the idea—I’m investing in my money and family. AMD is performing well right now, and I haven’t noticed any issues with drivers or performance lately. I don’t know what your concerns are, but if you’re worried about AMD cards, I can only offer what I’ve experienced.

I've experienced only a single driver problem with Black Myth: Wukong. The blacks were too dark, making it hard to see anything even in slight shadows. After updating my drivers, the issue was resolved right away. All previous driver concerns appear to have been fixed, and current problems seem to disappear quickly.

This situation seems pretty concerning. The stock appears to be affecting the RX 6750XT. Should I consider the RTX 4060 instead? What are your thoughts, @TatamiMatt and @Dedayog?

You're not impressed with the 4060 either. Could you check the price you're offering?
