Hi, I just restarted the PC and installed the essential drivers, but I’m wondering what other software might be useful. There are utilities like GIGABYTE Smart Switch and APP Center (Intel 100 series) available. I’ve already added the app center, so I’m thinking about additional options for my MSI GTX 980. Thanks in advance!
Steam and your preferred applications on your previous machine.
Only FastBoot from the motherboard site is needed to access UEFI settings or adjust options in Windows. This works only for fully UEFI systems that are properly set up. Install any required apps and trust them. Security tools are optional—choose what makes you feel secure based on your habits. I don’t install:
- Gigabyte software (my system still uses BIOS, but think about this)
- Intel “App Center” or similar
- Intel storage controller panel
- THX/Double or similar emulation gear
Just get a good headphone/speaker and a decent sound card or external DAC.
Set up only the essential drivers for your devices. Most Gigabytes offerings aren’t necessary. App Center performs poorly. I keep mine and it frequently crashes. It’s too easy to just remove it. You can treat it as an updater for motherboard drivers, but otherwise it’s not required. For other tools, you should install them individually. I’ve added a few extra features like enhanced color correction on my main monitor and various printing/scanning utilities for my printer. I also enjoy a more intuitive interface for audio card settings. However, digital emulation support is usually disabled there anyway. Remember, any installed software can be removed if it doesn’t serve a purpose.
