Currently using an AM4 setup (5600x, X570 card, RTX 2080) I began rebuilding by switching to a 1000W power supply, B650 MSI Tomahawk motherboard and pre-installed PCI4 NVMe plus DDR5 RAM for an AM5 configuration. I was aiming for a 7800x3D but the cost has risen significantly to nearly $450 while new AMD CPUs are arriving. I understand the 9XXX processors are more energy-efficient, so gains won’t be huge (even the 9800x3D is only about 8% faster than the 7800x3D). My goal is to gather advice. I’ll wait three days for the 9800x3D release before checking discussions. I have options: 7800x3D at $450, 7700X at $280, 3090X3D possibly around $450, or a 4080 Super once I sell my current components. My primary use is gaming at 1440p, and I plan to upgrade to a 4080 Super after selling my motherboard, RAM, NVMe drives, and old CPU. Do you think the 7780X3D will become cheaper when Zen 5 launches, or should an X-series CPU suffice for now? Any thoughts?

Yeah just wait for 9800x3D, it may or may not will be cheaper than 7800x3D or around the same price, with all the efficiency and other improvements. Or the 7800x3D might "suddenly" drop in price as it comes out, if your plan is efficient use of money rather than exhausting entire budget. Well, you're on 1440p, so the weight of performance leans harder on GPU, but that doesn't mean an x3D CPU won't make a difference, they're faster, and the main difference will be seen in the more demanding parts of games where the CPU has to do more work than average, which means things like 1% lows are more stable and on average higher, etc. So those are still on the way? Which ones you got?

Ready for $450? The 9800X3D is the top choice for gaming, but it costs $170 more than the 7700X—only about 10% less powerful. That makes it a much better deal.

I don’t remember the drive I used, yet I chose Corsair DDR5-6000 RAM because it looked like a reliable setup for this kind of configuration 2x16GB.

Everyone has their own priorities, but the key is understanding what matters most.
