The USB devices I plan to use together are a MOTU M2 audio interface and an M-Audio 49e midi key controller. Both operate on USB power. I’m unsure about their power usage, so I’m considering a powered USB hub as a safer option instead of forcing a PSU too hard.
The issue is that these items consume very little power, so it doesn't really matter; if they made any difference, you'd already be in a serious situation and this wouldn't be enough to help.
It's similar to driving without any clothing to save gas—your car might be slightly lighter, but the savings are negligible and won't make much of a difference.
In short, USB-powered gadgets don't really consume a lot of power from the power supply unit.
