You can utilize the drive or memory from the bundle; it should work without issues. However, performing a clean installation is always recommended for better security. Make sure to format the drive completely before first use. The Android TV boxes may have issues with the existing OS provided by an unreliable manufacturer—installing yourself is safer. Check if your device supports Wi-Fi 7; if not, it won’t affect performance much. It will behave identically to your current router, so you won’t notice any difference. The firmware won’t offer the same level of customization as advanced routers like OpnSense or Mikrotik. Only after trying will you understand its true capabilities. I’d suggest going DIY. Personally, I’m planning to upgrade from basic home equipment to something more powerful such as Mikrotik for greater control. It might be challenging at first, but the flexibility of advanced router software is impressive—perfect for IT professionals.

I appreciate how flexible my opnSense setup is. I can always upgrade my APs whenever I like. When 6E launched, I replaced my APs and jumped to the latest Wi-Fi standard. You won't be locked into buying a new router. This might help lower costs over time. It depends on your configuration. Many people have done this without any problems. The only reason I chose a trusted brand was for continuous 24/7 operation, and I didn’t want worries about that. I also needed something that received BIOS updates. My Intel NUC kept getting updates. Still, my path was pricier than the AliExpress options, so it’s up to you.
