hey, i need some advice. I have an old Lenovo G50-80 80E5 laptop with 4GB DDR3 RAM. It works okay at low settings but struggles when playing GTA V, especially when it runs out of memory and crashes. I’m wondering if I can install a DDR4 2666MHz 8GB stick in the second RAM slot. Would that work? I also found an attachment with all my laptop information. Thanks!
Use an DDR3 stick since DDR3 and 4 aren't compatible. Combining different capacities and speeds isn't advised, but it should function. Both sticks will operate at the slower one's speed. Good luck!
Get CPU-Z, go to the memory and SPD sections. Purchase a DDR3 chip that closely matches the values you see there for best compatibility. Share your screen shots if you require assistance.
No, you can't simply swap it out and use an DDR4 stick without considering compatibility and system requirements.
DDR3 and DDR4 cannot work together. A device built with DDR3 cannot run DDR4 memory, and they are not meant to be swapped.
They won't function with it, and unfortunately, installation isn't possible at all.
Review some visuals for a clearer understanding: the differences between DDR4 and DDR3 are highlighted in these links. For instance, a DDR3 SO-DIMM has 204 pins whereas a DDR4 version uses 260 pins. The notch position is also adjusted to avoid accidental installation of incorrect RAM. Voltage settings vary between the two types.
