I recently upgraded to a GTX 1080 for my build, expecting better performance compared to an RX 580. The results were promising, but the game still doesn’t hit the desired frame rate—aiming for 144+ consistently. I’m wondering if my CPU is the bottleneck. Currently, I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and considering upgrading to a 3700X might help. I’m running on 16GB RAM, with the game set to low settings and some configuration tweaks like removing shadows.

The 3700x offers roughly a 10% boost in core performance. That means starting at 100 fps could add around 10 extra frames per second if it makes sense. You might also reduce or turn off post-processing effects to further improve the frame rate.

Thanks, but I wouldn't think it would make such a big difference. From what I understand, Apex tends to be a bit inconsistent with CPU and GPU usage, depending on the specific situation.

I'm using a specific resolution and settings, and I didn't remove the AMD drivers prior to installing the nVidia ones.

I'm running at 1728x1080 resolution with all low settings plus a few adjustments in the configuration file, like removing shadows as mentioned in the main post. Yes, I completely removed all AMD drivers before installing the GPU and the new drivers.

I’d say my average FPS is actually within that range, maybe a bit lower. The problem is when the game slows down in specific map areas—sometimes to 100 or even 90 FPS. I’ve noticed it runs smoother and gets higher rates later in the game, which makes me think it could be related to fewer players or less activity on the map. That would mean the CPU has less work, but I might be misunderstanding the situation. Generally, I thought drops happen in consistent spots where the game is more CPU-intensive, making it harder for my R5 2600 to keep up with the GPU.
