Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice on upgrading my CPU. I currently have an i5-4670K but it’s not performing well, especially with the RAM I have. I’m thinking about replacing it but don’t know which CPU to choose. My budget is around $400 to $500, and I might need a new motherboard if I decide to go that route. Any suggestions would be great! Maybe... the Ryzen 5 5600X and the MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 are available. Intel Alder Lake is expected later in the year.

Thanks, buddy. Your graphics card suggests the best CPU from AMD right now, but it’s around $1000 or more, which isn’t feasible for me. So I’ll pass.

Sure, take your time. If you're not in a rush, it's best to wait until at least Alder Lake is available. I'm hoping its availability will improve compared to the current gaming GPU options.

Start by reviving your system first. Usually I submerge the socket in 99% isopropyl alcohol, cover it with a tissue or paper, and let it sit for 24 hours. Don’t forget to clean the CPU pads too. If it still doesn’t work, try soaking the RAM slots in alcohol and letting them dry. Don’t just discard a good system because it fails unexpectedly. For a price around $500, you might get a solid build—like a 5600X with a budget B550 and a cheap 16GB 3200MHz CL16 kit. If you spot a good deal on Intel, a 10700F plus a budget B560 board and a 16GB 3200MHz CL16 RAM could be worth it.

I don't think so, but getting it is pretty easy—my version was online, though you might find it elsewhere, perhaps in a shop, but I'm not sure.

I had extra CPU that matched my board but ran slower, still better than nothing. I also need thermal paste—typically around three dollars for a tube.
