I own a compact system for the CPU with water cooling and air cooling for the GPU.
Ram is the simplest improvement. Once SSD is installed, it provides immediate performance gains. Upgrading the GPU isn't possible at the moment due to high costs. A free "boost" can be achieved by removing unnecessary files.
It varies based on your needs. Probably a RAM upgrade is what you're considering. 8GB should suffice, but many games require a bit more, and it's never wise to run out of memory. Plus, RAM is the only option that's currently reasonably priced.
