Hey everyone, I'm a PC gamer with an i7-4790k. I recently got a new Kraken x61 and when changing my CPU, I couldn't find any thermal paste. So I used the fresh paste from the cooler I just received and applied it to my new CPU because some of the old paste had been removed. It was a bit risky, but my CPU is holding steady at 24-32°C while idle on my desktop. Tomorrow I'll replace the paste, so I'm wondering if I should overclock the CPU and if so, to what level? I want to make sure it works properly after the change. My current setup includes:

- MSI z97 PCMate
- 12 GB RAM at 1600 MHz
- ASUS GTX 1070 ROG STRIX GPU
- I7-4790k CPU
- NZXT Kraken x61 liquid cooler

Any advice or tips would be really helpful! I'm new to overclocking and want to avoid any issues. Thanks a lot!

Yes it's turbo boost is 4.4ghz on 1 or 2 cores. It will turbo automatically when needed as long as there is thermal headroom.
4.7ghz is realistic with minimum effort, but like I said, don't expect a large impact in performance.

Make sure to install fresh thermal paste and reinstall your x61 before attempting overclocking, but only after that. You can overclock if you wish, but it's not necessary. Overclocking won't significantly impact performance.

CTurbo :
Make sure to get some fresh thermal paste and reinstall your x61 before attempting overclocking, but once that's complete—you can try overclocking if you wish. It’s not necessary. Overclocking won’t significantly improve performance. I’d definitely swap out the paste first. With Turbo Boost active, it might reach up to 4.4ghz per second. If you’re planning to overclock, do you need any additional steps? Or can it easily hit 4.4 on its own? And what might be the maximum potential if you go that route?

There won't be a significant improvement by increasing the overclock, but if you're determined and have the unlocked version, you can do so. When you increase the overclock, start with small adjustments and gradually add more units to ensure stability. If you aim for higher FPS in games, consider boosting your GPU's overclock as well, then test it for consistency.
