Hey there, I've been using an i7 4820k since 2014 on an HP prebuilt setup, and I've gradually upgraded the rest of the parts over time. Now I'm running low on upgrades that actually boost performance. I'm wondering if a move to an i7 4930k would bring any meaningful improvements. Four to six cores sounds good, but considering the frequency changes between generations, the actual gains in benchmarks seem limited. I intend to keep this machine running for at least the next four years, after which I'll likely replace it with a new build. Key specs: 1060 6GB overclocked (+180 cores and +500 RAM), 20GB DDR3 1600 (4+8+4+4 dimms) x79 HP OEM motherboard (Pittsburgh 2).

The maximum boost clock remains consistent, meaning most models deliver comparable single-threaded speed. The additional multithreaded capability adds value, and given limited high-clock Xeon choices, the 4930K is a solid option if you can find it at a fair price.

You can likely add a Xeon like an E5 1680 v2 to boost processing power. But how do your games use the CPU? Are you reaching its limits?

In theory, you'd likely hit GPU limits with the 4930K. A upgrade might be necessary if you decide to go ahead with this model.

It varies by game, but I've seen more recently in many apps and some titles where my CPU has been limiting performance to 100%.

I don’t have direct experience with that exact CPU, but others who used similar hardware say it supports strong GPUs. What benchmark goals should you aim for, and which titles are best suited?

1080p resolution with as many frames as feasible, optimized for performance. Likely to improve to 1440p once monitors are upgraded.

Consider adding more threads but focus on investing in a Ryzen 3600 setup to achieve noticeable FPS improvements that justify your spending.
