Consider upgrading to a better Wi-Fi card or using an external antenna for your laptop.
Hi everyone, I just moved to a new place and my internet isn’t working well. On my MacBook it’s fast enough for most tasks, about 40mb/s, but on my gaming laptop it drops to around 5mb/s and games lag a lot. I’m wondering if the issue is with my WiFi card. Should I replace it? Are there better options like an external USB Wi-Fi antenna? I don’t have an Ethernet connection and wallpower adapters are too costly. Thanks!
Top choice = Wired connection... Possibly a USB adapter could improve Wi-Fi strength... Replacing the internal card isn't helpful since you're still restricted by size and identical antennas.
Cheap card would have lower max speed limit, if it supports only 2.4 Ghz, but 1st try getting closer to the router and test if that makes any difference... You clearly are limited by some interference(too many wifi devices, neighbours router) or obstacles(wall, fish tank, mirror) that weaken signal with your 5mb/s...
